Overview

The Blue Bells is a charming new development by Wain Homes, situated on the edge of Chippenham. Buff walling stone has been utilised to integrate the homes with the surrounding rural architecture. The site contains 72 plots, providing three to five-bedroom properties and affordable homes in a combination of detached, semi-detached and terraced styles.

The majority of plots incorporate walling stone paired with cast stone and render, whereas other house styles utilise rustic red brick as the dominant material alongside cast stone cills for a varied neighbourhood, which visually reflects the local rural architecture. Taylor Maxwell worked closely with Wain Homes to specify and supply walling stone and red bricks that would complement the local beauty of the surrounding area.

Chippenham is a market-town full of historic charm in north-west Wiltshire. Ideally situated between Swindon and Bath, the homes are a short journey away from the Cotswolds. The Bluebells beautifully reflects this charm across their residential plots, using walling stone as the predominant building material, which is a durable, attractive and cost-effective alternative to natural stone.

The walling stone was chosen in a ‘cottage’ finish for a rough and irregular appearance which replicates that of natural quarried stone. A traditional buff colour in the Cotswolds’ colourway using natural stone aggregates was selected, which provided many benefits including thermal properties that will reduce energy costs for the homeowners in the long-term. Walling stone is also load bearing (UKCA marked in accordance with BS EN 771-5) and offers additional weathering and aesthetic benefits, ensuring the homes will age gracefully over time.

The rustic red bricks used on the remainder of the homes offer a timeless, classic look which complements the traditional architectural style of the development, while the rich tones and varied textures add depth and character to the facades. Our technical team worked closely with Wain Homes' architects and builders to ensure that the chosen materials met all design and functional requirements.
