Overview

Situated in the historic village of East Huntspill is Brue Reach, a rustic and well-connected housing development by Wain Homes. The site offers 40 units consisting of three-bedroom, four-bedroom and bungalow style builds, 16 of which are affordable homes.

The site is conveniently located near the M5 and the Bristol and Taunton rail line, as well as the larger town of Burnham-on-Sea, where there are plenty of places to eat, drink, shop and utilise excellent leisure facilities.

Taylor Maxwell worked with Wain Homes to supply reconstituted walling stone in a buff, rustic finish and red multi bricks, to perfectly integrate the site into the local area.

Concept to Completion

Walling stone was chosen to integrate the new houses into the historic character of the area, with East Huntspill village and civil parish dating back to as early as 796 AD. The architecture is a mix of post war to that of a modern era character, which the design team were keen to retain throughout the housing site. Across the estate, red and red-brown brickwork has also been used to reflect the materials commonly used in East Huntspill. The site respects the history of the surrounding area and retains its traditional style.

Our technical team worked closely with Wain Homes' architects and builders to ensure that the chosen materials met all design and functional requirements. Selected in a traditional buff colour and a ‘cottage’ finish, the rough and irregular appearance of the walling stone replicates that of natural quarried stone. Specifying walling stone provided many benefits to the site, including thermal properties that will reduce energy costs for the homeowners in the long-term. Walling stone is also load bearing (UKCA marked in accordance with BS EN 771-5) and offers additional weathering and aesthetic benefits, ensuring the homes will age well over time. Walling stone is the perfect facade solution for a large housing site as it offers the appearance of a traditional building material at an affordable cost.
