Cupa Pizarras certified as carbon-neutral company

We are excited to announce that CUPA PIZARRAS, the manufacturer of CUPACLAD® Slate Cladding (exclusively distributed by Taylor Maxwell in the UK) is officially a carbon-neutral company.

A company’s carbon footprint refers to the total greenhouse gas emissions that they generate every year. The Carbon Trust have officially certified that CUPA PIZARRAS is a carbon-neutral company. CUPA PIZARRAS constantly strive to improve the sustainability of their production process and are focused on the reduction of energy consumption and CO2 emissions. The Integrated Quality and Environment System Manager at CUPA PIZARRAS, Belén Díaz López, explains:

“We are very pleased with the certification because it acknowledges the daily work that we have been doing. Carbon neutrality is part of a broader and ambitious plan we are working on and includes more actions in terms of sustainability, circular economy and the fight against climate change.”

Two different projects were selected by CUPA PIZARRAS in order to offset their CO2 emissions caused by their operations and achieve a carbon-neutral status.

The first programme involves planting trees, working in agreement with Carbon Footprint Ltd, for every ton of CO2 emitted, a tree will be planted in school grounds across the UK. The second programme is dedicated to protecting the Amazon rainforest, through a project focusing on reducing emissions from deforestation and degradation (REDD).

Through both of these programmes, CUPA PIZARRAS were able to offset company emissions in 2019, and are continuing their actions on this path for the future, as they are committed to reducing their greenhouse emissions by 5% over the 2020-2021 period.

Natural slate sustainability

CUPACLAD® Slate Cladding, manufactured by CUPA PIZARRAS and exclusively distributed by Taylor Maxwell in the UK, is an ecological and sustainable option for facade cladding. Due to it being a natural slate material, the production process from the quarry to installation is highly efficient and does not involve any heating or chemical processes which cause pollution and high levels of energy consumption. Subject only to extraction and mechanical shaping, its transformation process requires minimal water and energy consumption. Furthermore, the product is complementary to external insulation systems by helping to keep buildings cool in summer and temperate in winter, which is a long-term solution for maintaining energy efficiency.
