Cupaclad supplied to SNHU College
Located in the city of Manchester, New Hampshire (USA), the SNHU College of Engineering, Technology and Aeronautics has been completed using CUPACLAD® slate cladding, by manufacturer CUPA PIZARRAS. Designed by Wilson HGA Architects, Southern New Hampshire is one of the fastest growing universities in the United States.
The project design called for a ground-breaking finish that would reinforce the institution's focus on 21st century innovation. Project Manager Skanska selected the CUPACLAD® 101 Random system, a solution that perfectly matched their project vision.
It was important for all involved in the project that the material selected worked for the New England weather, where summers are warm and winters very cold. CUPACLAD® is a sustainable facade system that helps to keep buildings cool in summer and temperate in winter, reducing overall energy consumption. Similarly, with students coming and going all day and the need for lots of different types of spaces, it was important to optimise natural light throughout the building. CUPACLAD® was the perfect material to complement the use of large glass windows and their natural wooden frames.
Project Manager Christianne Peschard from Skanska explained, "we wanted a 'vernacular look', so we looked at old covered bridges to get inspiration for the building's roofing" and "the look of slate was something we really liked, so we started out by looking for it via online searching". The different sizes of the slate tiles used in the 101 Random system was exactly what the team were looking for.
A key benefit of the CUPACLAD® natural slate cladding system is its ease of installation. The 101 random system utilises invisible, self-drilling stainless steel screws with large flat heads, specifically designed to ensure a perfect fixing and reduced installation time.
This was our first time working with CUPACLAD. We were anticipating quite a bit of labour and time when mounting these slate materials. But to our surprise, that was not the case at all! Installation directions and drawings were accurate and perfect. Easy to read, easy to follow. We did not need to purchase any special tools to install the system. We would definitely recommend and not hesitate to work with CUPACLAD again, especially due to its ease of installation.
